Pimpri–Chinchiwad HistoryBHOSARI .... Connection with MAHABHARATA |
One of the very important areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad is Bhosari. Bhosari is what one would call a nickname; the actual name of the city is Bhojapuri. This was the capital of King Bhoj, him being the king that ruled over certain parts of India more than two thousand years ago. Throughout the time of Mahabharata, this particular city was also called Bhojakata. Mahabharata is one of the major Sanskritepics of ancient India, the other would be Ramayana. Bhojakata’s location was west of Kundinapuri which is now the capital of Vidarbha Kingdom. There are many reasons why one would refer to Pimpri-Chinchwad as wonderful but one very interesting aspect of it is that this is where a few famous freedom fighters were born.
The Mahabharata has made the city even more worth talking about as it is one of the world’s longest epic poems. This amazing piece has more than 74 000 versus and approximately 1.8 million words in total. If you include the Harivamsa, the Mahabharata will have over 90 000 versus. This epic poem is of great importance to the culture of Nepal as well as India. The reason this poem is so important is because of the way it discusses and explains human goals and other interesting influences. The discussion happened in an ancient mythological ritual, trying to clarify the relationship of the person to society as well as the workings of karma and the world in general. Mahabharata, if translated into English, simply means “the great tale of the Bharata Dynasty.
Bhojakata was the capital of the city of Rukmi, Rukmi also the name of the king of Vidarbha Kingdom. Rukmi had a sister, her name was Rukmini. Rukmi told his sister that she had to be married by the Chedi king Shishupala. But she would not hear it as she had fallen in love with another man by the name of Vasudeva Krishna. Krishna abducted the woman against her brother’s wishes and that set the king off and he left the capital of Vidarbha to catch Krishna and retrieve his sister, Rukmini. He made a promise to the city, telling his people that he would not return without his sister. After all he tried; Rukmi was defeated by Krishna and his army. But Rukmi, even though defeated, he was a true king and kept his promise by creating a new capital for Vidarbha, this one was to the west of Kundinapuri and it was called Bhojakata. The king, from then never left his new city, he ruled from there and never went back to Kundinapuri. This is how the great Rukmi became the king of Bhojakata. |
